Honesty in personal relationship

Self-knowledge and taking responsibility for ourselves is possible. Everything that we do not own in ourselves – controls us and distorts our relationships.
People wake us up to ourselves, and inner awakening – wake us up to others. The inner and the interpersonal dimensions effect each other continuously. The transfer of my inner reality to the relationship communication is optional, not automatic. There are choices regarding what I share with my partner and what I don’t, That is where the truthfulness is an option.
But my inner reality will effect my partner whether I share it or not. This is the ethical dilemma of truthfulness in personal relationship.
Three distortion of truth (at least) are possible here:
- projecting into the other the cause of a problem which is my own responsibility
- taking in as my responsibility a problem which is not mine
- knowingly withholding, distorting or covering up aspects of my inner reality which do effect my partner.
The 2 first ones depends on self awareness and boundaries. The 3rd one is a moral challenge for honesty.
