Glossary of terms
Empathy is a new word (1951) for a new need and a new human capacity: understanding the reality of another human being from their own point of view. In the past we understood each other instinctively, now it has to be done consciously. Empathy is much needed everywhere, by everyone, in every profession and in every family. We found a way to cultivate it methodically. The major purpose of Psychophonetics is to enable everyone to take practical steps in developing empathy every day. The core of Methodical Empathy is the Parallel Processing, cultivating ‘Self-Empathy’ as a basis for empathy with others. Methodical Empathy is not a technical skill but an on-going process of spiritual development.
(Psychophonetics training level 1)
In the Psychophonetics sense Coaching designate the first level of Holistic Counselling as defined above.
It aims to enable the client to mobilise deeper inner perspective and resources for dealing more effectively with oneself and with life and work challenges in order to achieve specific personal or professional goals, as defined by the client. Psychophonetics Holistic Coaching is based on the same philosophy, background, ethics and Methodical Empathy – as Psychophonetics Holistic Counselling.
The boundaries between the definition of ‘coaching’ and ‘counselling’ is fluid and over-lapping in all languages. In the Psychophonetics sense the boundary between these two terms is defined by the different levels of training and skills of the coach/counsellor and by the different intentions of the client. Practitioners have to qualify as a Psychophonetics Holistic Coaches (one-year post-graduate training) as a prerequisite for the further training in Psychophonetics Holistic Counselling leading to the ‘Graduate Diploma of Psychophonetics Trainer for Personal & Group Development’ (a 2 years course. 3 years of training altogether).
(Psychophonetics training level 2)
Professional Counselling is a helping process in which a skilled and qualified professional counsellor assists clients, at their own request, in dealing with themselves, with their life and their work challenges more effectively than before the process started. It operates through structured and skill empathic conversation in which the client is the centre of the attention, providing him/her with a safe and supportive space for expression, for being listened to, heard and understood from their own point of view. It aims at creating new perspective regarding one’s life, mobilising deeper inner resources of insight, feeling and will, and discovering new options for independent action.
Psychophonetics Holistic Counselling adds to the field of professional counselling the unique perspective of conceiving the human as a being of body, soul, spirit and unique individual destiny, in light of Anthroposophy, and the unique skills of Psychophonetics-based Methodical Empathy, which enables the counsellor to mobilise his/her the deep resources of specially trained capacities of ‘Seeing’ the client’s reality from their own point of view using ‘Perceptive Imagination, ‘Hearing’ the client’s deep experience using ‘Perceptive Inspiration’, and coming closer to ‘Knowing’ the client inner striving using ‘Perceptive Intuition’, checking and confirming these perception through skilled empathic responses. Psychophonetics Holistic Counselling process minimises the role of questions, advices, external guidance and abstract teaching and maximise the role of client’s self-guidance, self-authority, self-discovery and personal development, through effective empathic responses and challenges. It is based on a ‘Psychology of Freedom’ code of ethics.
(Psychophonetics training level 3)
Is the professional application of the full scale of Psychophonetics methodology and processes for personal, spiritual, social and professional development. It aims at facilitating, equipping, encouraging and training people to become their own teachers, leaders, healers, inspirers and creators. It is a process of accessing, activating, mobilizing or ‘birthing’ human potential into reality. It is inspired by the original Socratic philosophic tradition of the teacher being a ‘midwife’ for the student’s innate potential wisdom. More than therapy Psychophonetics is a complex methodical system of processes for creative adult education in the style of ‘Unfolding Human Potential’.
Psychophonetics ability to do this is based a combination of 1) the Anthroposophical spiritual psychology, spirituality and physiology called “Psychosophy’, with 2) methodical activation of the Deep Intelligence of expressive, non-verbal modes of knowing including perceptive Imagination, Inspiration and Intuition, the core faculties of Empathy, which lay dormant in every human soul, and 3) the process of Methodical Empathy: the cultivation of Self-Empathy’ as the basis for empathy with others. Psychophonetics is a training process for awakening and activating these potential powers of perception, development and the transformation of life challenges into opportunities for spiritual development.
„A path of knowing leading the spiritual within the individual to the spiritual in the world“.
Anthroposophy is a personal and a cultural expression of a new possibility of intimate knowing of the reality within observed phenomena, that was born at the end of the 19th century. It is the assumption that conscious cultivation of that potential is possible for every individual today, and it is a path for that cultivation. Today it is a combination of the documented results of such knowing, of traditions created around those results, and of further individual pursuits and discoveries that continue in this path of knowing. Self-knowing is the starting point for all anthroposophical knowing.
